Thirsty Thursday: Wake Me Up

I like almost anything in a martini glass. Cosmos I could live without and options that are more sugar than booze are something I could do without, but in general, I enjoy all kinds of martini. One of my favorites is an espresso martini. I love them to kick off a dinner before food is had, I drink them after dinner instead of real coffee, and I occasionally enjoy making my own riff on them at home. That’s how I came up with the one I’m sharing below. It’s basically an espresso martini for people who don’t want a creamy option and don’t have actual espresso on hand. I drink it whenever I need a quick pick me up or don’t want to go out and pay $10 for a bartender to mix one for me. It’s easy to make at home, so if you try it, let me know what you think!

Wake Me Up

Yield: 1 glass

1 1/2 oz. of Tower Hill vodka

1/2 oz. of Kahlua

1 oz. of Italian espresso liqueur (I love Knight Gabriello and it can be found at Total Wine for under $20!)

2 oz. of freshly brewed coffee (I like to use my Keurig. Using one pod on the small setting should make you enough coffee for about 3 martini)

1/2 oz. of simple syrup (recipe linked here)

1. Fill a shaker with lots of ice cubes. Add in all ingredients. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into your favorite glass. Enjoy.
